Pucks Deep #19:

Hello Saints!

Quote of the week: “Know your value.”

I am currently sitting in an airport on a Monday morning at 6 am in Des Moines, Iowa. Not where I thought I would be.

In the words of Garth Brooks (yes… big fan in the 90’s!)… “Life is not tried, it’s just merely survived, when you’re standing outside the fire.” Sports can certainly prove this true!

On Thursday night, I woke out of a dead sleep with a phone call from my son Henry saying he had  been traded to De Moines. He had just arrived in Sioux City on a bus from Chicago for games on the weekend at their arena.

Late in the evening, the coaches informed him that he will be on his way to the airport in Sioux City at 4:45 AM to head back to Chicago for a layover that would take him to Akron,  Ohio.
Luckily (a God wink), he was headed to the closest opponent to Skaneateles… Youngstown.

Kristen and I drove to the airport in Akron and picked him up and took him to Youngstown . He played for a new team Saturday night and the next morning we drove back to Chicago and spent an emotional afternoon with his friends and billet family and then headed to DesMoines.

Henry just dropped us off at the airport where we will leave him for a new challenge, one that he is ready for.

Why do I share this story with you?  I hope you find some value in my experience and the attached story below (“Know your Value”), which will allow you to reflect on your journey and your child’s journey. My big take-away… feeling valued and knowing your worth is so important.

I am ALWAYS available if your child needs help anytime knowing his/her value. I know all of the Saints staff believes the same. Relationships and confidence are first and foremost in this crazy journey. Let’s build those together…

“Know Your Value”

A violinist played for 45 minutes in the New York subway. A handful of people stopped, a couple clapped, and the violinist raised about $30 in tips.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. In that subway, Joshua played one of the most intricate pieces ever written with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars. And two days before he played in the subway, with again not many people appreciating his skills .

Joshua Bell sold out a Boston theatre, and the seats averaged about $100.

The experiment proved that the extraordinary in an ordinary environment does not shine and is so often overlooked and undervalued.

There are brilliantly talented people everywhere who aren’t receiving the recognition and reward they deserve. But once they arm themselves with value and confidence and remove themselves from an environment that isn’t serving them, they thrive and grow.

Go where you are appreciated and valued.

I appreciate you all!  Have a great week.

Be A Saint!
